<p>Waders live longest when they go into storage clean, bone dry, and out of the sun. A few minutes after each hunt beats a repair ticket in November.</p><h3 id="after-each-hunt">After each hunt</h3><ul><li>Rinse mud and grit off with fresh water. Skip the pressure washer.</li><li>Hang or stand them to dry fully, boots down, away from direct heat. Never dry waders next to a heater or in a hot truck.</li><li>Once the outside is dry, dry the inside. Fold the chest down and let air reach the interior, or use a boot dryer on low.</li></ul><h3 id="off-season-storage">Off-season storage</h3><ul><li>Store clean and completely dry, hanging or loosely folded, in a cool, dry place out of sunlight.</li><li>Avoid hot attics, damp basements, and long-term storage in a sealed tote while damp. Heat degrades materials and damp invites mildew.</li><li>Keep them away from rodents. How do I care for my waders?

How to clean, dry, and re-wax Chêne waxed canvas gear so it builds character without losing protection.

<p>Waxed canvas is built to age, not to be babied. Care is simple: brush it, spot-clean it cold, keep it away from machines, and re-wax when water stops beading.</p><h3 id="cleaning">Cleaning</h3><ul><li>Let mud dry, then brush it off with a stiff brush.</li><li>Spot-clean with cold water and a rag. Mild soap only if you must.</li><li><strong>Never</strong> machine wash, machine dry, dry clean, or use hot water or detergent. All of it strips the wax.</li></ul><h3 id="drying-and-storage">Drying and storage</h3><ul><li>Air dry at room temperature, away from direct heat.</li><li>Store dry, hanging or loosely folded, in a dry space.</li></ul><h3 id="re-waxing">Re-waxing</h3><p>When water soaks in instead of beading, it is time to re-wax. Work a canvas wax into dry fabric with a rag, hit the seams and high-wear spots, then warm the piece (a hair dryer works) so the wax sets evenly into the weave.</p><p>Creases, scuffs, and darkened patches are the point. That is your gear keeping score.</p>

How do I care for waxed canvas?

Keep Chêne rubber and leather boots in the fight: cleaning, drying, and conditioning basics that prevent cracks and leaks.

<p>Boots fail from neglect more than from miles. Rinse them, dry them right, and condition leather before it dries out.</p><h3 id="rubber-boots-scout-knee-boots">Rubber boots (Scout, knee boots)</h3><ul><li>Rinse mud off with fresh water after wet hunts. Mud holds moisture against the rubber.</li><li>Air dry away from direct heat and sunlight. UV and heat crack rubber over time.</li><li>Store upright in a cool, dry place. Avoid folding tall boots over.</li></ul><h3 id="leather-boots-grove-fieldstone">Leather boots (Grove, Fieldstone)</h3><ul><li>Brush off dirt, wipe down with a damp cloth, and let them dry at room temperature. Never on a heater.</li><li>Condition the leather when it starts looking dry or after heavy soakings.
