How do I care for waxed canvas?Updated 4 hours ago

Waxed canvas is built to age, not to be babied. Care is simple: brush it, spot-clean it cold, keep it away from machines, and re-wax when water stops beading.

Cleaning

  • Let mud dry, then brush it off with a stiff brush.
  • Spot-clean with cold water and a rag. Mild soap only if you must.
  • Never machine wash, machine dry, dry clean, or use hot water or detergent. All of it strips the wax.

Drying and storage

  • Air dry at room temperature, away from direct heat.
  • Store dry, hanging or loosely folded, in a dry space.

Re-waxing

When water soaks in instead of beading, it is time to re-wax. Work a canvas wax into dry fabric with a rag, hit the seams and high-wear spots, then warm the piece (a hair dryer works) so the wax sets evenly into the weave.

Creases, scuffs, and darkened patches are the point. That is your gear keeping score.
